Ongoing from 2019, this series is the careful transition of one color to the next with focus on playful emotions.

“Reverb” 2021

Oil and gold leaf on Panel, 30x30 inches

Reverb is a musical term for amplifying sound. To me this painting is about amplifying the feeling of passion, symbolized by a small circle of gold in the very center of the black diamond. This painting has a bold interior that softens as the motif reaches the edges.

The Grid

The majority of the Gradient Series relies heavily on the grid I hand draw beneath each painting. Without using tape, I’m able to get hard edged paint lines that pull your vision from one side to the next. Thanks to the grid I can carefully examine the relationships between colors.

“Kiss” 2020 Oil on Panel, 18x24 inches

“Drift To Sleep” 2020 Oil on Panel 16x20 inches

“Hello Yellow” 2020 Oil on Panel 10x10 inches

“You Are The Heartbeat To My Day” 2020 Oil on Canvas 36x36 inches

“Summer Haze” 2020 Oil and Resin on Panel, 12x12 inches

“Sail Away” 2022, Oil on canvas, 24x36 inches

“Malibu” 2020 Oil on Panel 12x12 inches

“Through The Shutters” 2019 Oil on Panel 8x8 inches

“Dandelion” 2021, oil on panel 12x16 inches

I’m struck by the relationship of two colors that are barely indiscernible from each other. At first glance these gradient paintings seem like a smooth transition of color, but the brush strokes will tell you that each of these paintings are made up of hundreds of triangles: each uniquely mixed.

“Can’t Elope” 2020

Oil on panel, 12x12 inches in collaboration with Matt Midgley of Gallery Ergo

In this collaboration, Matt drew the design and I painted it in oils. I love doing collaborations and Matt's geometric abstraction was so different than mine! When I saw the drawing he gave me, I immediately thought of this teal and orange color pattern. It reminds me of cantaloupe and honeydew.
